Ravenous Reader Reviews "Almost Home" by Pam Jenoff

I recently read “Almost Home” by author Pam Jenoff. “Almost Home” is a contemporary suspense novel with flashback scenes to the main character’s past.

My first response as I completed the book was “Wow”! The book is an intense thriller with non-stop action. I finished reading in less than two days because I just couldn't put the book down.

The book follows main character, Jordan Weiss who is an intelligence office in the U.S. diplomatic service. We first meet Jordan in Washington D.C. when she receives an urgent letter from her best friend, Sarah, who is suffering from ALS. Sarah lives in alone in London and Jordan makes the decision to transfer to the one place she thought she would never return in order to care for her friend.

Ten years before, Jordan suffered a life-changing tragedy while completing her graduate studies at Cambridge University. Returning to England brings back all the buried memories, but it also brings danger. Jordan finds herself questioning everything she thought was true about the death of her lover, Jared, who mysteriously drowned before the completion of her last term. The truth she digs up soon threatens her life and she can’t be certain who to trust. Nothing and no one are as they seem.

The reason I absolutely loved this book was because it never slowed down. The characters are mysterious and the plot is far removed from everyday life. There is a sequel to this book that I will be reading soon to discover what becomes of Jordan.

I have read other books by Pam Jenoff which were based during World War 2. One of those books, “The Diplomat’s Wife”, turned me into a huge fan of Pam Jenoff. Her books are the perfect combination of adventure, suspense, history, and romance.
